United Nations High Concern for Refugees is a particular branch of the world agency United Nations for the safe guard and protection of the refugees who are facing a great impediment of being called as outsiders in their own country. Instituted in 1950 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, UNHCR is organized to protect and rehabilitate the refugees and resettle them to the countries they belong to and protect their human rights and fundamental rights, thus saving their dignity. UNHCR also carries out relief operations in the natural disaster affected areas of the world. The agency spreads public awareness among the refugees around so that they can?t be the victims of any internal as well as external force. It has a large history of social service in saving the refugees in the countries like Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. For having achieved excellence frequently in its works and activities United Nation?s High Concern for Refugees was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace in 1954 and 1981. For the proper effectiveness of its works and executions, UNHCR appoints some goodwill ambassadors, the individuals having high intellectual as well as social performances. It is funded by the non-government organizations and other private bodies. The high commissioner of UNHCR is Antonnio Gutterres from Portugal who heads the organization and is responsible for all of its activities.
