Ottawa, May 3 (ANI): Research in Motion's CEO Thorsten Heins has assured BlackBerry users that they are not killing off the physical keyboard from its upcoming smartphone devices.
Speculation that the company would be abandoning the physical keyboard in favour of an on-screen virtual keyboard emerged when it unveiled a prototype smartphone with no physical keyboard on Tuesday.
But during a question and answer session at the company's BlackBerry World conference in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday, Heins said the BlackBerry maker had never stated it would kill off the physical keyboard.
"We know what our strengths are. We won't lose our focus on the physical keypad. It would just be wrong, just plain wrong for us to do this," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him, as saying.
The prototype device was given to developers so that they could make their apps compatible with RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system.
According to some reports, the prototype bears more of a resemblance to smartphones from competitors than many of its previous handsets. (ANI)
