Vienna, May 1 (IANS) China will actively push forward the nuclear disarmament process, said the country's envoy in Vienna Monday.
According to Cheng Jingye, China's permanent representative to the UN and other international organisations in Vienna, the complete prohibition and thorough destruction of nuclear weapons and establishing a world free of nuclear weapons are the common aspiration of all the peace-loving people from all countries of the world, Xinhua reported.
China is firmly committed to a nuclear strategy of self-defence, and therefore would keep its nuclear capabilities at the minimum level required for national security, said Cheng.
He was speaking at the First Session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
