New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal Monday said that the government would finalise the national water policy by the end of the month.
"We have prepared a draft policy. We are holding consultations with various stakeholders. The national water policy will be finalised by April end," Bansal told reporters.
He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would inaugurate the 'India Water Week' Tuesday to focus on water issues and provide a global platform for related issues that brings policy makers, industry and experts together.
The first day of the week-long event would focus on water, energy and food security for all, said Bansal.
An exhibition is also planned during the week to meet future challenges related to water. WARIS - Water Resources Information System, a fully web-based information system for India would also be showcased.
Around 1000 participants from India and around 43 from abroad are expected during the water week, said officials.
