Rio de Janeiro, March 24 (IANS) Brazil football legend Romario declared that he has no intention of running for the president of the Brazilian Confederation of Soccer (CBF). However, the now congressman endorsed Ronaldo to take over the helm of Brazilian football.
Romario was highly critical of former CBF president Ricardo Teixeira and celebrated his departure by stating "a cancer has been removed", Xinhua reported.
Still unsatisfied with the interim president Jose Maria Marin, Romario looks to Ronaldo to "save" football in Brazil.
According to Romario, Ronaldo has the seriousness and respect to take Brazilian football back to the top. Additionally, Ronaldo's experience as president of Brazil's Local Organizing Committee for the 2014 World Cup will give him valuable experience for the future post of president of the CBF.
In regard to his candidacy, Ronaldo expressed that he does not intend on running for president of the CBF, but would accept the position if it were given to him.
Ronaldo is expected to receive the title after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
