Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, not much remembered as the second president of India, or as a great philosopher but as a real teacher and a pathfinder as well as an exceptional personality. Born in 1888 in the Indian state of Tamilnadu Radhakrishnan received very good education in his home state and the university of Calcutta. Dr. Radhakrishnan was an extraordinary reader and voracious as well as studious personality who presented Indian knowledge in most of the great universities in the world. Thus this unique personality made India?s name great outside India like Vivekananda. ?Idealist view of life? is the immortal work of Radhakrishnan where he presented a conglomeration of Western and Eastern thought thus showing the importance of eastern thought to the westerners and the value of western thought to the easterners. This eminent personality has served as the second president of India. For his fabulous knowledge on life and philosophy Radhakrishnan became the great personality being the treasure of intuitive knowledge and philosophy. For his achievement on life and philosophy Radhakrishnan was honored with the highest civilian award of India Bharat Ratna in 1954. In addition, many honors from abroad also fell on him. For his immanent contributions to Indian life and philosophy in enriching it Radhakrishnan was regarded as the teacher of all. Thus his birthday on September 5 has been commemorated as the teachers? day every year.
