The Supreme Court of India Tuesday has extended the deadline of 2G Spectrum licence auction from June 02, 2012 to August 31, 2012. However, it has refused to grant 400-days extension to Centre.
Sentencing the order, a bench of judges comprising Justice G S Singhvi and K S Radhakrishnan said that Government would have to complete the license distribution process for 2G Spectrum till August 31, 2012 and the current license would expire on September 30, 2012.
However, the bench has rejected government's demand to grant it an extension of 400-days for completing auction.
Extending the Centre's demand, the bench said, "In our view, it will be just and proper to partially accept the averments made in the application (by the Centre). Accordingly, the time specified for conducting the auction and grant of licences is extended upto August 31, 2012."
The bench also said its February 2 order cancelling 122 licences, allocated during the tenure of A Raja, would remain operational till September 30, 2012.
