The National Academy of Direct Taxes is situated in Nagpur, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. This top most institution in the country is entrusted with the task of training the class one of officers and staff of the Income-tax Department of the country. Those who have been placed under IRS through UPSC Civil Services examination get training at this academy. Apart from its head office in Nagpur, the institute also has seven regional Training Institutes situated in different cities of India at Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
The training for IRS officers started at the academy more than five decades before in the year 1957. From then on the academy has a history of producing a number of high quality bureaucrats for the services of the nation. The academy has got a reputation of its own due to its good training. Needless to say the company remains in news for its various activities and a number of successful alumni who have made NADT proud.
The head of the academy is Director General of Income Tax (Training) which is an officer of the rank of Additional Secretary to Government of India.
