New Delhi, May 2 (IANS) Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal Wednesday expressed "deep concern" over the recent incidents of alleged discrimination against students from Northeastern states.
In a statement issued here, the HRD minister said he had in April requested the UGC to formulate regulations to prevent discrimination in higher educational institutions and an ombudsman would soon be appointed to look into such incidents.
"The UGC in its meeting on April 2 deliberated on these regulations and has finalized them. Every institution is required to establish an Ombudsman who would have the power to hear complaints of discrimination in institutions," Sibal said.
"Educational institutions should rise to the occasion to provide an inclusive and harmonious platform for students from across the country to come together and pursue studies," the statement added.
