Washington, Apr 11(ANI): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said Russia's decision to not support action by the United Nations Security Council is keeping President Bashar Assad in power in Syria.
Clinton said the US will try to convince Russia, which is a key ally of Syria, to support action that would at least allow humanitarian admission, when foreign ministers of the G-8 meet in Washington.
She also warned of the risk of a regional conflict and civil war flaring from the violence in Syria.
"Russia's refusal to join us in some kind of constructive action is keeping Assad in power, well-armed, able to ignore the demands of his own people, the region and the world," The Express.co.uk quoted Clinton, as saying.
Clinton's comments came after Syrian troops disobeyed a UN-brokered ceasefire plan on Tuesday, launching fresh attacks on rebellious areas. (ANI)
