New Delhi, Feb 15 (ANI): Criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its stand on Law Minister Salman Khurshid's sub-quota remarks, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari has said that the opposition party should look into their own conduct while commenting on others.
Talking to reporters here, Tiwari said the BJP had no business to comment on the issue when their own people had been guilty of misconduct while James Michael Lyngdoh was Chief Election Commissioner of India.
"May I remind the BJP that in 2002, it was one of their Chief Ministers in Gujarat who went about criticising. And James Michael Lyngdoh at that pointing in time, was the honourable Chief Election Commissioner of India. So therefore, before you point fingers at others, you should introspect about your own conduct," Tiwari added.
Tiwari further said the matter has been resolved between Khurshid and the Election Commission and there is no need to comment on it anymore.
"The Election Commission has clearly stated in their order what they wanted to say. After that some incidents happened, which led them to think that their order is not being followed. So the Law Minister has put forward his opinions in front of him. After this, I don't think that there is anything left in this matter. I think this should be put to rest here itself," he added.
Khurshid had during a recent poll-campaign in Uttar Pradesh promised that if the Congress Party was voted to power in the state, the sub-quota for Muslims would be increased to nine per cent within the 27 percent reservation meant for Other Backward Classes (OBC).
However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) slapped Khurshid with a notice, saying his remarks had violated the model code of conduct.
Tiwari also slammed the BJP for criticising Home Minister P. Chidambaram over Israeli Embassy's car bombing that injured four people in New Delhi on Monday.
"Even before the primary investigations for any incident reaches its first stage, comments start pouring in from the Bharatiya Janata Party," said Tiwari. (ANI)
