With the view to boost higher education in India, University Grants Commission (UGC) came in to existence in the early years of Indian Independence in 1948 and has already celebrated its long years of journey in education. UGC was set up to meet the growing demand and appeal for higher education in the country with providing all sorts of modern amenities with the ambition to keep the standard of Indian education with the International. With the sincere efforts of the commission, many Indian apex academic institutes offer excellent education in the specific fields of knowledge that shows the growing trend of Indian education and academics in the world. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has been injected with two chief responsibilities: maintaining the standards of education and coordinating the education system with its subsidiaries and to fund them to carry out proper education facilitating research in every field of knowledge. Besides, UGC arranges state, national and international level seminars and workshops on various study related and major topics to enhance the inquisitive power of the students and teachers. Various schemes like award of financial assistance to the teachers having excellence in educational and teaching achievement is given by UGC, funds to colleges for their all round growth in education, various internship and teaching programs are arranged by it to increase the knowledge of the teachers thus effecting quality education. A special provision is given to research and research-oriented activities in the higher education level taken by UGC to boom the curiosity of the learners regarding knowledge. NET, JRF, SRF and many fellowship programmes are conducted by the UGC. This central agency is a statutory autonomous body of the government of India controlled as well as funded by the direct authority of the ministry of Human Resource Development. The organization is comprised of Chairperson, the secretaries and the members. All fields of higher education are controlled and supervised by UGC including arts, humanities, and literature, vocational and technical as well as science subjects.
