Uttarkhand initially a state in nature is remarkable for its heart- enchanting natural tourist spots and some prominent spiritual centers. It is a most visited land for its hill stations and national parks. So it is called as the abode of gods. Uttarakhand attaches its border to Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tibet and Nepal. It shares its history and culture with Uttar Pradesh from which it was divided as a new state in 2000. Uttarkhand is mostly enveloped by Himalayas and its enjoyable peaks and mountains that provide large forest product to state?s economy. Gross State Domestic Product of the state in 2000 was estimated to be $ 6 billion. Industry is being developed after its partition from Uttar Pradesh. Education plays a vital role in forming a man?s life. Literacy is high in the state. The state has some efficient academic institutions of higher prominence providing world-class education. The state capital including other urban agglomerations is linked to other parts of the state as well as country by air, rail and road network. Riding on the waves of anti-incumbency congress won 32 seats out of 70 seats and became single largest party but it could not achieve the magic figure of 36 that is required for the majority. The incumbent BJP is just behind with 31 seats.
The results of polls in state are not encouraging for the congress. Except state of Manipur where it has managed to remain in power, it seems that this national party is fading its charm.
