Every year staff selection commission of India recruits candidates to man a large number of posts vacant under government of India. Here we would like to deliberate on the background of Staff Selection of India. The staff selection commission was set up according to the recommendations of estimates committee of Parliament that advised that there should be a commission for the vacancy of lower division posts in the government of India. The administrative reforms commission of India also echoed similar inputs. In the light of this the government of India decided to set up a commission for the recruitment of class III and class IV posts. Honoring these recommendations the government of India did set up a Subordinate Services Commission. This commission came into existence in the year 1975 and later it was renamed to Staff Selection Commission.

The agency recruits officials of lower post of government of India. Posts like lower division clerk, upper division clerk, assistant grade and stenographers are filled by the examination conducted by the staff selection commission. For the sake of efficient administration the SSC has been divided into the nine regions.
