Rastriya Janata Dal was founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav, a renowned politician in India owing to the arrest of Sharad Yadav on the corruption charges and the political party he whttp://192.168.10.117:8080/newstrack/tag!loadTags.action?id=138as heading. Janata Dal fell in the hands of Lalu Prasad yadav which he again named as Rastriya Janata Dal. Again the party gained the status of a national political party in 2008 Indian politics due to its profound success in northeastern states. The party has a number of followers from the community of Muslims and Yadavas. The Rastriya Janata Dal has mainly its bases in the Indian state of Bihar where from its formation it did not gain any towering victory neither in national polls nor in state election poll. In 1998 poll it had coalition with Samajwadi party and again with Indian National Congress but it failed vehemently to crack the attention of the common people. In the assembly election poll held in 2000 it did extra ordinarily good with the largest majority howsoever and formed its own government in Bihar. In 2004 parliament poll Rastriya Janata Dal also perennially did well with some seats and formed alliance with Indian National Congress in the center. But in the state election held in 2005 Rastriya Janata Dal lost its higher popularity and had to be satisfied with its defeat where its opposition NDA formed the government.
