Court stays possible arrest of Mulayam Singh Yadav

Lucknow, May 15 (IANS) Allahabad High Court Friday stayed the possible arrest of the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in a rioting case in which his supporters had allegedly disrupted polling in an Uttar Pradesh village.

Apprehending his arrest along with his supporters, who were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for disrupting polls, Yadav Thursday filed a writ petition in the court, seeking stay on his arrest.

In the writ, Yadav had said that though no case was registered against him he feared that as a part of its political rivalry, the state government could implicate him falsely on charges of disrupting polls.

As many as 125 supporters of the SP were booked last Monday for creating ruckus and disrupting re-polling in the Parsana village in Etawah district of the state.

The SP supporters were booked under section 147 (rioting), section 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 131 of the People's Representation Act.
