Chennai, May 13 (IANS) Men in Puducherry at the last moment piped women in terms of percentage of votes polled for the 15th Lok Sabha elections Wednesday.
Interestingly, out of the 762,028 voters in this union territory, the 395,240 women voters outnumber men voters by 28,452.
For a large part of election day-even till 4 p.m. the Puducherry men lagged behind the women in terms of votes polled.
But that changed at the fag end of the polling with 79.78 percent of the male voters casting their vote as against 79.67 percent in the case of women voters.
In the final tally, 314,895 women voted in the polls as against 292,639 men.
The constituency comprises of Puducherry (581,676 voters), Mahe (28,030), Yanam (27,151) and Karaikal (125,171).
Yanam registered the highest percentage of polling at 93.15 percent followed by Puducherry 79.97 percent, Karaikal 77.58 percent and Mahe 71.26 percent.
