Lucknow, May 10 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi Sunday said the recommendation of a court panel to revoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against him was a slap on the face of the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh.
'The recommendation to revoke the NSA against me has come as a defeat for the state government. It is a slap on its face,' Varun said at an election rally in Pilibhit, where from he is contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
'My fight is against all those who are against the poor and weaker sections of the society.'
He said under no circumstances, he would stop his fight for restoring the dignity of the poor and oppressed.
'Self-respect of poor is of prime importance for me and it's the biggest electoral issue in my view. To ensure the poor get their self-respect, I will continue with my efforts.'
On Friday a special advisory board of the Allahabad High Court recommended withdrawal of the stringent NSA slapped against Varun for his inflammatory communal utterances. The Mayawati government has decided to move the Supreme Court against this.
Pilibhit is some 250 km from Lucknow.
