Crime Branch conducts combing operations in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, July 31 (ANI): In the wake of July 26 serial blasts in Ahmedabad city, which claimed 53 lives and injured over 140 people, the Crime Branch has carried out combing operations in various areas here today.

 

It has also detained several people for questioning, police said.

 

Joint Commissioner of Police H P Singh said, "Massive combing operations were conducted by different teams in various parts of the city last night. Several people have been detained for questioning. However, reports from all the teams are yet to be consolidated."

 

Meanwhile, the Bharuch District Police received a call this morning saying that explosives were found in Ankleshwar area of the city but no explosives were found in the substance when examined.

 

Teams of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), police teams of Mumbai, Hyderabad, Rajashtan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi reached Gujarat to assist the State police in probing the blasts.

 

The city Crime branch has also sent a team of officials to Navi Mumbai after an e-mail received in this case were traced to that area.

 

On Wednesday, the Bharuch District Police had detained ten people, who were earlier associated with SIMI, for questioning.

 

Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist Abdul Halim was arrested from the Dani Limbda area of the city during a combing operation and has been remanded to police custody till August 10 for interrogation.

 

The city crime branch had also interrogated certain cycle shop owners in the area pertaining to the case.

 

Meanwhile, the State Government has formed a special committee between investigating agencies of Gujarat and that of other States and Centre. (ANI)
