Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza's bad run in Singles continues as the Hyderabadi bala plunges to 15 places to be on the 50th spot with 633 points in the latest WTA ranking released on Monday.
Mirza's erratic 2008 continued, as she lost in the second round of East West Bank Classic tournament. She lost the match in a straight set 4-6 3-6 to her Chinese opponent Meng Yuan.
India’s numero uno Woman tennis player earlier had a bad result in the British Qualifier in the first round of the Stanford WTA event and also at Wimbledon singles last month.
Sania Mirza, after returning back from an ankle injury, is yet to create a mark and is struggling to get on in any of the lately concluded international tennis event.
However, her recent doubles ranking has brought her a little breather taking to the top-20 again from 26; six places up with 1600 points. Mirza along with her American partner have made a semi-final appearance in the East West Bank Classic in Los Angeles.
Among other Indians, India’s another top seed Mahesh Bhupati has listed in the top-10 despite losing in the quarter-finals of the Rogers Masters Cup, while Leander Paes remained at the 15th place.
Like most of women Tennis players in the world, Sania Mirza too needs a lot hard work and luck to retain her position as she struggles with her injury but needs to get back to business as soon as possible. India certainly eyes for some good performance from her in the forthcoming Beijing Olympics.
