Hours after Pakistan sought more information from India Monday in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma accused Islamabad of indulging in dilly-dallying tactics.
‘What more information Pakistan asking for is just a diversionary tactics which put a question mark on its sincerity and intent to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks to justice,’ said Sharma.
“We have given adequate evidence to Pakistan to act against the identified masterminds. By delaying action and raising technicalities, Pakistan would be undermining the credibility of its own commitments to take tangible action,” Sharma retorted.
On Monday morning, Pakistan’s foreign ministry called India's acting High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra and handed over a document "seeking further clarifications and evidence from the government of India".
A statement released from the Pakistan Foreign Office said the information provided by India in the Mumbai terror strikes case is not sufficient and it wanted more details to carry forward the probe to its logical conclusions.
"The information being sought from India is in the spirit of cooperation with Indian authorities and with a view to enabling the relevant authorities in Pakistan to proceed further in the matter," the statement said.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chief Rehman Malik said the further information sought from India would help the successful prosecution of suspects arrested by his government.
He said that Pakistan wants Kasab’s statement to a judicial magistrate, chargesheet filed by him, details of the SIM cards used by perpetrators and coordinates of GPS equipments, among others.
Over 180 people were killed, including foreign nationals, in the terror attacks launched by a group of ten gunmen at Mumbai’s Taj Hotel, Oberoi-Trident Hotel and CST station who sailed to Mumbai from Karachi and indulged in the blood bath for three days from Nov 26 to 29.
