Sep 03: In an incident to show its stringent control on the religious matter, Chinese government has passed the law which required the Communist party’s approval for the selection of Tibetans spiritual leader.
Tibetan believes in reincarnation of their spiritual leader when they die. It is said that in 1994, Gedhun Choeki Nyima, who was recognized by the Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchem lama of Tibet was taken in custody by Chinese government. And the entire request to know about the Panchem lama by UN and other organisation has been rejected by Chinese government.
This law has outraged Tibetans’ which see it as a move by the Chinese government to negate the presence of Dalai Lama who is exiled and is leaving in India.
Gyaltsen Gyar, who is a special envoy of Dalai Lama, said that this will create further resentment among Tibetan people.
The new law has come under criticism which gives approval for selecting the next Dalai Lama as well as it bars any other Tibetan Buddhist outside Tibet from seeking reincarnation.
It is seen as an attempt by the Chinese government to strike on Tibetan Buddhism and to have a control on that, also that China has problem with the present Dalai Lama.
The Dalai Lama's representative at the Office of Tibet in London, Tsering Tashi, says China's approach was unwelcome and heavy-handed.
"This is a purely religious issue that should be dealt by religious leaders," he said.
"The Chinese communists are atheists and do not believe in religion, so definitely in the run-up to the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, this is not going to help them and it's only going to tarnish their international image."
The 17 point Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet signed by the Tibetan delegation in the year 1950, on threats of military action on Tibet has been not achieved. Instead, after that the Chinese government used this document to convert Tibet into a Chinese Colony, violating the agreement.
Since then, China is destructing Tibetans monasteries, suppressing their religious, cultural rights, giving no political freedom, and massacre of many who protested against the Chinese Authority, as a result many took refuge in different countries of the world.
Till now they are protesting against Chinese regime.
Even in their adopted countries they are keeping their hopes alive, to free Tibet and restore their culture and tradition.
Dalai Lama while receiving the Noble Prize for Non Violent protest to free Tibet in the year 1989 said, “This is the worst period in our 2000 year history. This really is the most serious period. At this time, now, there is every danger that the entire Tibetan Nation, with its own unique cultural heritage will completely disappear. The present situation is so serious that it is really a question of life and death. If death occurs, nothing is left."
By dictating such laws China is reluctant to help Tibet restoring its sovereignty.
Since 40 years, Tibet is fighting but it seems it is drumming to a deaf ear.
