Sep 01: The religious interpretation has again shown its color by telling Yoga as un- Christian and sham
Silver Street Baptist Church and St James' Church of England in Taunton, Somerset has banned yoga class for children.
Loise Woodock who was looking for a new place for her YumYum Yoga class was turned of. She said that it’s ridiculous on their part to ban yoga as she was only teaching music and movement.
Woodock said, “There is nothing that could damage their minds in any shape or form. The churches have completely misunderstood it and I think they are being narrow-minded. I explained to the church that my yoga is a completely non-religious activity. There is no dogma involved."
Church defended them by saying that yoga is against Christian ethos, as it impinges on spiritual life of people in a way in which Christianity does not believe. Yoga has its root in Hinduism and can not be separated with the religion.
Church said that Yoga may be harmless but unlike Christian who believes the way to wholeness is by faith in Jesus, yoga reaches to this wholeness through human technique and spirituality.
It is ridiculous to banned Yoga, when it is patented in USA and irrespective of religious differences it is practiced almost in every part of the world.
It is continuously rising in popularity especially in western countries. Madonna, Sting, Camaroon Diaz, Gwenyeth Paltrow are the famous celebrities who had made yoga, a way to their life. Researches on this ancient technique find it scientific and in many countries Doctors advise patient to chant ohm before undergoing a surgery. Yoga actually is a path of realization and wisdom, the path of love and devotion to a personal god and the path of selfless action.
This is quite questioning that the world which is into the making of a global village, is fighting over petty issues, sometime its Burka, then sometime its Turban. Contrary to their religion they take such issue and disturb the very fabric of humanity.

September 2, 2007 at 12:00 AMIf Yoga has roots in Hinduism, and must be avoided by true Christians, then 'true' non-Christians would have to avoid all hospitals and doctors, who carry the Christian red Cross on their doorsteps!
Logically this will lead to a quicker demise of all 'true' people....!!!
Please see this brief video entitled "Can a Christian Practice Yoga?"
