Reliance Communication (RCom) on Thursday launched a new wireless broadband service ‘Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus’ that promises a downlink speed of up to 3.1 mega byte per second (MBPS) and uplink speed of up to 1.8 Mbps.
This is the fastest ever broadband service in India, claimed Mahesh Prasad, president of RCom, the arm of Anil Ambani led ‘Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’ (RCOM), while addressing a press conference.
‘The Broadband Plus service is 30% faster than any other fastest broadband service. With this fastest Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology based service RCom is targeting to cover 15 million subscribers, including existing Netconnect users.’
On the very first stage, RCom will launch its latest Internet service in 35 cities, including Guntur, Hyderabad, Kakinada, Bangalore, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Mumbai and Delhi that will enhance its average revenue per user (ARPU) from the range of Rs.500-800 to Rs.600-850.
The company expects, the existing Reliance net users will most probably upgrade their service; for which users will have to purchase a plug-and-play USB device in Rs.3,500 and choose a plan ranging between Rs.299 to Rs.1,750 depending upon the net-speed and the nature of plan.
After availing this service, the customers will experience fastest video streaming, video surveillance, rich media content and superior Internet browsing, RCom claims.
‘This Broadband Plus service is suitable for a wide range of customers including, seven million mobile net users who uses internet service through data card and USB port in their laptop while roaming and eight million home PC users who usually use internet for entertainment purpose’, added RCom.
For launching this service, RCom has only upgraded its network software, said Prasad. ‘Using this, the customers can roam on more networks globally in over 200 countries’, he added.
Tariff Plan
For the unlimited users, RCom has set the ceiling of 50 Gigabyte of data transfer by arguing that it is global practice in an unlimited plan while a plan for unlimited night users has also been announced. The night users can facilitate the ‘unlimited night plan’ in just Rs.499 per month.
The service will be available in two plug-and-play USB device variants from retail outlets since March 17 onwards.
