Aug 22: Irritated with the military presence in the largest university of the country, the students of the Dhaka University and from other colleges of the capital held a procession.
Police stopped the demonstrating students and thus triggered the tension cutting across the boundaries of the university and spread to other university campuses too.
Chittagong University in the port city had the same conflicts between students and the police. Similar encounters have been reported from Rajshahi town and coastal town of Barisal and Khulna city.
It should be noted that emergency has been declared since January in the country in which condition protests and assembly are banned.
Students cut every communication in the campus and demanded pulling off the army from the campus premises.
Clashes continued even after the interim government apologised and called the army camp back from the university premises. On Tuesday in fighting at least 150 students were injured as a consequence of which troops were withdrawn from the premises of the campus. A probe into the riot situation has been ordered by the authorities.
This is to be known that since January when country plunged into political crisis the military has been stationed in the Gymnasium building.
This defiance of the government orders was not confined to the four walls of the campus only but took the whole capital in its fold including colleges from all over the country.
Political situation has worsened in the country since January military took the administration in its hands. Teachers and other sections of population threatened to join the protests if the army was not called back.
