India on Wednesday reiterated that it will continue to build up pressure on Pakistan to dismantle terror infrastructure indulged in various terrorist activities across the border and bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attack to justice, however, asserted war with Pakistan is not the solution to eliminate terrorism.
“Unless the perpetrators are brought to justice, unless the infrastructure available to terror activities is completely dismantled, which will be verifiable and credible not only to India but to the international community, we will continue to demand it from Pakistan. And they (Pak) will have to respond to it,” said External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, who is also the Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha, while replying to the discussion on the motion of thanks to the President’s address.
In view of the Pakistan’s dilly-dally tactics, he said there is a time frame to which India can wait for the Pakistan’s action on the Mumbai attacks.
Responding to opposition’s charge that government has not done enough to pressure Pakistan to act against perpetrators after 26/11, Mukherjee underlined government’s incessant effort which forced Pakistan admitting its role in the Mumbai strikes.
“Non-state actors did not come from heaven and Pakistan has now admitted this that some parts of the Mumbai terror attacks were orchestrated from Pakistan’s soil,” said Mukherjee that Paksitan’s admittance is in itself a proof that our diplomacy has “prevailed” and “not defeated”.
Speaking on the delay in their reply, the Leader of the Lok Sabha said, “It does not mean we have to rub them on the wrong side. We understand the complexities of the Pakistani situation. The Leader of Opposition understands this because he comes from that side of the world. So, attacking Pakistan is not the solution.”
Explicating why India so far not opted for the retaliatory action against Pakistan, Mukherjee said: “War is not the solution to abolish terrorism. Human liberty and values are sacrosanct. We cannot imitate certain other countries and their actions. Many, many innocent lives are being lost every day.”
Taking an edge over the previous NDA regime, the Leader of the House said that UPA government could bring Pakistan to its knees without mobilising a singe troop on the border, without pressing the panic button and without laying mines on the border.
He told in an apparent reference to “Operation Parakram” during the NDA regime when massive troops were mobilized along the border with Pakistan in the wake of the terror attack on Parliament in December 2001.
