In one of the high-level regional forums on the ongoing global economic crisis, government officials, ministers of labour and finance, senior UN officials, representatives of workers and employers bodies from throughout Asia-Pacific regions are due to meet in Manila on Feb 18-20.
Called on by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the regional forum entitled “Responding to the Economic Crisis - Coherent Policies for Growth, Employment and Decent Work in Asia and the Pacific” will host more than 11 countries, including India.
A report in the name “The fallout in Asia: Assessing labour market impacts and national policy responses to the global financial crisis” will also be presented for further incite into the global issue. The report has been compiled by the ILO’s Regional Office for Asia-Pacific.
Among other dignitaries, Jomo Kwame Sundaram, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development, and Ursula Schaefer-Preuss, Vice-President, Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development, Asian Development Bank, will attend the meet.
The forum is part of a series of meets planned by ILO Governing Body prior to the high-level meet on the world economic downturn, which is scheduled to take place in Geneva on 23 March.
The High-level Regional Forum is being convened by the ILO in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and the Department of Labour and Employment of the Philippines with financial support from the Government of Norway.
