Aug 14: More than hundreds of people have been reported dead or missing and approximately 30,000 houses estimated destroyed in North Korea due to unceasing heavy rains continued since last one week, which has affected so far more than 63,000 families, official sources reported.
In a rare situation, North Korea have to face the problems of heavy rains and flood situation which causes the damage of billions of worth assets and more than that the priceless life of several people across the country. According to Korean Central News Agency, the official news agency of North Korea, “ the heavy rains since August 7 th has caused huge human and material destruction.”
As the reports has been gathered from different parts of the country, since Monday the agency said on the basis of available preliminary information,” The bucketing rain left hundreds of persons dead or missing and destroyed more than 30,000 houses for over 63,300 families, or made them flooded".
Almost 30 to 67 centimeters of rain fell has been measured during six days that causes the destruction of at least 800 public buildings, more than 540 bridges and sections of the railway. Thousands of hectares of farmland have been buried under slit, the news agency reported.
The neighbouring regions of national capital Pyongyang, South Kangwon and North Hwanghae were badly affected. Thousands of the people of these regions have been homeless, as their houses have been dipped in heavy rains.
The connection of this part has been detached from other part of the country as the major national highways and railroads have been damaged. There were no power supplies in those areas.
Usually, North Korea does not face this sort of problem, but the continue deforestation has made this critical situation, experts believes. The government is also liable behind this situation, as officials have encouraged people to expand farmlands into the hill areas to grow more foods. Thus continuous deforestation has constructed the situation of floods and heavy rains that origin the destruction on the mass level, added experts.
They have also warned the government about aftermath when the water level would decrease and several diseases would create more problems for the country.
