Tata Motors, the commercial automobile leader in the Indian market has won yet another mega order of Rs.2200-crore from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to supply 1,625 ultra low-floor buses, and their maintenance for 12 years.
According to contract, Rs.900-crore would be given for purchasing 1,625 buses while Rs.1300-crore for their maintenance for 12 years.
This is the second consecutive bus contract for Tata Motors from DTC as the auto major had bagged such a order in 2007 for supplying 650 low floor ultra modern buses, which has been fulfilled in phased manner according to schedule in 2008, Tata Motors has claimed in its official release.
Those buses are running on the road in the capital and being extremely popular due to its attractive design, super comfort, better performance and international look.
The two low floor wide doors situated at the centre and the front are extremely convenient for the travellers especially physically challenged persons who depend upon wheel chairs as they can enter or exit with their chairs.
“The interiors are spacious. The seats are ergonomically designed, and the corridors wide enough for easy movement. Special features include a communication system connecting the driver to passengers and electronic destination board. The engine, at the rear, reduces noise, heat and vibration levels, while also increasing interior space. Full pneumatic suspension and automatic transmission further add to a comfortable ride,” stated Tata Motors in a release.
“Success of Tata Motors ultra low-floor buses in Delhi is encouraging other cities to consider similar transportation solutions,” the company added.
