Andrew Strauss, the left handed opener batsman of Middlesex has been appointed the captain of England cricket team for the next tour to West Indies later this month. He has been selected as a next skipper after Kevin Pietersen resigned from the post on Wednesday morning.
The national selector Geoff Miller has appointed Andrew as a full time captain for the forthcoming West Indies tour when Kevin Pietersen posted his resignation in the wake of clash with team coach Peter Moores who has also been sacked, England Cricket Board (ECB) informed.
Strauss (31), in July 2006, had already led England as a series captain in absence of Captain Michael Vaughan in the four Test series against Pakistan and marked an impressive victory of 2-0 while five One Day International (ODIs) series had been drawn by 2-2 in his leadership.
Strauss was always in the frontline candidate to lead England team, but fortune didn’t favour him and Andrew Flintoff, Pual Collingwood and Kevin Pietersen got the chance to succeed Vaughan one by one, British media reported.
The batting record of Andrew as a skipper (55.66% as against overall Test record of 42.37%) is excellent and tells the story of his ability to lead the team under pressure, as media highlighted.
On the other hand, Kevin Pietersen has alleged media behind his resignation for creating trench between Moore and him that had pressed him to leave from his post.
The reports from British Media are not much in favour of Pietersen after registering 1-0 loss to India in the two Test match series and 5-0 humiliation in ODI series in last India tour.
‘Despite having tremendous batting skill, Kevin still immature as a captain and the rift between Moore and him would lead England towards doom,’ the British media are reporting continuously.
According to reports, Moore has alleged Pietersen for disobeying and disrespecting him, while Pietersen was angry with coach for opposing his demand to select Vaughan for West Indies tour despite his failure.
