After clinching a 1-0 victory in the two-match Test series against England, the Indian cricket team has regained its second position from South Africa in the latest ICC Test ratings. The second and final Test ended with a draw but was enough for India to bag a series win.
In the present series, India won the Chennai Test by six wickets and drew the second in Mohali on Tuesday earning two points to outdo South Africa for the second slot. Earlier, India had leapt to the same position after rolling an exciting 2-0 home series victory over Australia recently.
Meanwhile, South Africa seems in good knick in the ongoing three-Test series against Australia following an epic run-chase victory at Perth and is going 1-0 up. There are every chances of Graeme Smith's side to reclaim the No.2 spot if it wins the series 2-1 or 2-0, or draws it 1-1. South Africa can even overshadow the Aussies at the top of the ladder by a fraction of a point if it sweeps the series 3-0.
However, if Australia overcomes the first-match defeat and ended up winning the last two matches, then India’s place would be secured with a 15 points gap between the Aussies and the Proteas.
Meanwhile, India is ranked No. 2 with 118 ratings and South Africa at No. 3 with 117 ratings. There was no change in the West Indies' and New Zealand's pre-series points and positions as their two-Test series ended in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday.
