Acclaimed Hindu priest Rajan Zed met with European Parliament (EP) President Hans-Gert Pottering in his Brussels (Belgium) office on an historic invitation to discuss Hindu issues and promote interfaith dialogue.
Zed, who is the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, presented Pottering a groundbreaking memorandum listing 16 Hindu and interfaith issues, including recognition of Hinduism in all the 27 member states of EP, announcement of Diwali as major festival of European Union, assimilation and inclusiveness of all major religions, introduction of comparative religion as a subject in high schools, etc.
The Indo-American statesman, Zed, has also read the historic first Hindu opening prayer in United States Senate in Washington DC during its 218 years history. Last month he was invited by the EP President Hans-Gert Pottering for a meeting to foster interreligious dialogue.
