July 19: Members of the opposition party congress of the Gujarat state assembly and party workers today demonstrated in Gandhinagar over the Rs. 500 crore Sujalam-Sufalam scandal. Reportedly police used water canons to disperse the large mob.
Leader of opposition Arjun Modhvadia has gone for a three day hunger strike since Monday demanding the report of scam should be transparent to the public. A large number of congress workers have been also gathering at the place in support.
As a two-day session of the state assembly begins from today, it is obvious for the opposition to raise this issue in full effort in order to make the report public.
Earlier on Tuesday, the state High Court had issued a directive to the assembly speaker to table the report of Public Account Committee (PAC) regarding Sujalam-Sufalam scheme. The committee in its report has revealed various irregularities in the scheme. But the speaker in contrary returned the report to the committee and asked to limit itself to the CAG report of the scheme.
The Gujarat government has also said in reply that the matter only in the concern of the assembly and the court should not interfere.
Now the Gujarat High Court will hear the petition against the PAC chairman’s decision not to table its report regarding the corruption in Sujalam scheme in the Assembly.
