July 19: Pakistan is in the grip of severe attacks by militants since the red-mosque episode took place. Two bombs including a suicide car-bomb exploded on Thursday in the morning at 8.37 am at different places in Pakistan killing at least 34 persons in the attacks.
At least 24 people are reported to die in the explosion and 25 wounded which took place near a bus stand in south-west town of Pakistan, Hub, very close to Karachi.
The explosion is said to have targeted Chinese workers by the nationalist insurgents in the province of Baluchistan fighting for the autonomy of the region. The reason behind the attacks is said to be the opposition of the militants to the development projects which are mostly carried out by Chinese companies. This attack on Chinese is not new in the province.
Abdullah Jan Afridi said that blast occurred when the policemen were escorting the team of Chinese engineers whose vehicle just passed by.
No Chinese has been hurt in the incident though seven policemen were killed in the vehicle.
Another incident of bomb blast took place in North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, Hangu when a suicide car-bomber blew himself up near a police training center. Blast killed seven policemen.
“The attacker tried to enter the gates of the police training center but blew himself as the guards stopped him at the gates” said an administration official.
Hangul is a violence wrecked city near Afghan border harbouring the supporters of Taliban militants. The bomb attack is also being seen as a revenge act of the militants of the government assault on the Islamic clerics in the red-mosque which killed at least 75 pro-Taliban militants. This is to be known that most of the victims of the mosque episode came from the north-west.
As a reaction to the government treatment of the mosque-episode, pro-Taliban militants have abandoned the peace agreement reached with government. These incidents are linked to this scrap of the agreement.
On Wednesday an army convoy was attacked by the militants killing 17 army personnel. These fresh attacks occurred in wake of al-Qaeda’s demand of revenge of storming of the mosque.
