Panchkula, Nov 27 (IANS) Karanjit Singh Sandhu shot a stunning seven-under 65 to jump into sole lead at the midway stage of the HUDA-GTPL Unitech Haryana Open golf here Thursday.
Karanjit, younger brother of Olympian shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu, shot six birdies and an eagle and dropped just one bogey in his round that gave him a total of five-under 139. That gave him a one-shot lead over the Asian Tour player Gaganjeet Bhullar (69, 71) and seasoned Mukesh Kumar (69, 71) who are at four-under 140.
Four players including overnight leader Rahul Ganapathy who went to two-over 74, were at tied fourth at two-under 142. The other three in the group are Randhir Singh Ghotra (71, 71), Harendra Gupta (74, 68) and Rafick Ali Mollah (72, 70).
Karanjit opened with a birdie on the second and then dropped a shot on fourth to go back to even par. There was no indication of the kind of a round as he was still even par after seven holes. He then landed an eagle on eighth and added a birdie on the ninth to turn in two-under.
On the back nine, Karanjit birdied the 11th and then three in a row from 15th to the 17th for a day's work of 65.
