July 10 : US is the most intimate defense ally of Japan which is very much clear from the support Japan gave to US Iraq mission materially as well as morally. This friendship is getting deeper is confirmed by the recently held joint missile defense exercises off Japanese coast at sea and in air.

No information about the site has been disclosed by any governmental official. But this has been confirmed that both the countries had a ballistic missile defense drill in which AWACS which carries the designation E-3 Awacs, an efficient warning and control system have been used during exercise.

Both the countries shared information and tracked the target as a practice session. There is no need to tell afresh that Japan and US are already involved in the project of an advanced ballistic defense missile system. This upsurge in the joint military exercises and defense ventures between US and Japan has been an offshoot of Japan’s immediate neighbour North Korea’s insistence on nuclear programs and tests.

The US seventh fleet said in its released statement that four aegis-radar equipped destroyers have been brought for the event. One comes from Japanese side and three from US and successfully tracked the hostile missile on its course.

During practice the information regarding the tracked missile was sent to the prime minister of Japan within one minute. The next such exercise is anticipated in November.

Japan defense officials furnished information about Japan’s plan to conduct its first test launch of US developed SM 3 missile interceptor from a destroyer scheduled in December.
