Bhopal, Nov 24 (IANS) Who says politics is no child's play? Meet 13-year-old Sadhna Bharti, the youngest campaigner for any political party in Madhya Pradesh.
If the Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS) Party has Uma Bharati, its founder president, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has the Sadhvi Pragnya Singh Thakur issue, the Congress has Sadhna Bharti, who is all of 13.
Sadhna belongs to Etah in Uttar Pradesh and her oratorial skills could well put many a seasoned campaigner behind.
Many who have heard her speak say that Sadhna's speeches mesmerise people and this is why she has been drawing huge crowds across Madhya Pradesh. Some say she can grow into a fearsome rival to former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharati.
Sadhna, who made fiery speeches for the Congress in earlier elections, has been drafted by the party as a promising campaigner for the Nov 27 elections too.
She might be dismissed as a mere girl next door in the first appearance but her election speeches defy her age as she seeks votes for Congress candidates amid the hustle and bustle of high-profile electioneering.
Sadhna speaks in pure Hindi as she sets out to condemn the BJP government while speaking of various scams and scandals that surfaced in the state.
She starts with the Gayatri Mantra and then goes on to attack the BJP's 'development plank'. Her favourite lines are: 'They (BJP) say their motto is continuous development. When unemployment persists and poverty still exists, where is development?'
'I am highly impressed by Sonia Gandhi for her secular credentials and the sacrifice she made by not accepting the post of prime minister,' Sadhana said after the release of the Congress party manifesto in Bhopal.
On why she chose to campaign for the Congress party, she said: 'I hate communal forces and so decided to campaign for the Congress, which protects secular values.' Sadhana has often shared dais with Sonia Gandhi in past election campaigns in Madhya Pradesh.
