Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and paceman Irfan Pathan have made comeback to the One-Day squad for the next two matches of the ongoing India-England series. Chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth made the announcement on Thursday.
Sachin replaced Tamil Nadu opener Murali Vijay, while struggling bowler Rudra Pratap Singh made way for Irfan to the 15-member squad. Vijay, who was included in the ODI squad after making a surprise Test debut against Australia, didn’t get a chance to play a single match.
Tendulkar, after a successful home Test series against Australia, is returning to the One-Day team almost after an eight-month gap. He had played his last One-dayer against the Aussies in Brisbane in March this year.
Pathan, on the other side, had last appeared in the Sri Lanka tour in August. RP Singh, who played the first two games of the current series couldn’t display his best of form, and as a result was also earlier replaced by Ishant Sharma in the third match.
Team India is leading with a 3-0 margin in the seven-match Hero Honda Cup series by winning its third match in Kanpur by 16 runs through the Duckworth-Lewis method as bad light comes into play.
The fourth match is scheduled to be played in Bangalore on Sunday (November 23) while Cuttack will host the fifth match on Wednesday (November 26).
