June 29: The deep depression created over Bay of Bengal causes heavy rain in most part of the coastal districts and has cut-off many villages from communication facilities. Cities like Berhampur, Puri, Paradeep, Cuttack and the capital city Bhubaneswar are the most affected with heavy rain and wind with almost 65 km per hour.
According to the meteorological department heavy to very heavy rains are also expected within the next 24 hours over areas in coastal Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been warned not to move into the sea in all the four major ports of Orissa.
Due to fierce wind, grave damages have been reported in some of the villages near Paradeep Port and the district of Kendrapada. Uprooted trees also made it difficult to connect other regions of the district. The families of those affected villages have moved to the nearby villages and rested in different government buildings like schools.
The depression intensified last night and under its influence widespread rains have been forecast over all coastal areas of Orissa and north Andhra Pradesh.
As people of the state have just started their paddy cultivation, isolated heavy showers may affect the agricultural process particularly in the eastern and south-east part of the state.
The administration has kept a close watch of the development and district officials are ready to cope with any emergency situation.
Meanwhile, monsoon has reached in some parts of north India bringing some respite to the intense heat but is yet to cover all states.
