Life is precious... It is generated by compassion and sustained by warmth. The entire humankind is begotten from a common source and thus all of us are somewhere down the line, linked by a feeling of mutual sympathy for one another. Extending a helping hand towards your near and dear ones is no exception. But providing aid to the unsupported stalks is a remarkable step in its own way. Blood donation is also a vital part of this.
There are thousands and lakhs of people whose lives are sustained by some unknown souls. Their arteries are incubated by the priceless gifts from some strangers. The World Blood Donor Day celebrates the initiative of these chivalrous heroes who neither expect any reward nor do they ever show up for any applause.
The three major organisations - The International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC), The International Federation of Blood Donor Organisation (IFBDO) and International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) working for voluntary non-remunerated blood donation have selected June 14 as World Blood Donor's Day.
The active donors at these organisations donate blood of their own free will with a desire to serve mankind. It's a wide known myth that donating blood regularly makes a person weak or his stamina is decreased. Our body is easily able to regenerate the 450 ml of blood which is donated in 2-3 days. A healthy person can donate his blood in every 3 months regardless of the fear of any kind of health complacencies.
Giving blood regularly
This year, the global celebration of the World Blood Donor Day marks with the theme of “Giving blood regularly” to promote awareness abut the essence of availability, safety and appropriate use of blood in living lives of millions of people world over. The event throws light upon the commendable job done by the regular donors and their role in the society.
There is a great and ever-increasing demand of blood in the blood banks throughout the world. And though a number of people contribute to the blood donation, the number of regular voluntary donors is much less than the replacement donors. Over 80 million units of blood are donated every year, but only 38% is collected in developing countries where 82% of the global population live.
