Advani calls Manmohan Singh weakest PM

National,Politics, Tue, 11 Nov 2008 IANS

Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh), Nov 11 (IANS) Manmohan Singh is the country's weakest prime minister, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani said at an election rally here Tuesday.

'Manmohan Singh is the weakest ever prime minister. He is prime minister but has no powers of prime minister because (Congress president) Sonia Gandhi dominates the government and its decisions,' Advani said while addressing a large gathering at the Lal Bagh grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district.

Advani, who is the BJP's prime ministerial candidate and the opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, was on a day-long trip to BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh that goes to polls Nov 14 and Nov 20 to elect a new 90-member state assembly.

Advani mocked the Congress, which rules the coalition at the centre, for not announcing its chief ministerial candidate for states that are going to polls in November-December.

'Have you seen a cricket team saying it will decide the name of its captain after the match is over? The same is the case with the Congress,' Advani said, referring to the Congress' announcement that it will decide the chief ministerial candidate after the polls.

'They have neither declared their prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming general polls nor the chief ministerial candidates for the states going to polls,' the BJP veteran said.

'Only the BJP has the guts to declare its prime ministerial and chief ministerial candidates before going to polls,' Advani said.

He said his party had already made clear that Chief Minister Raman Singh would continue in his post if the BJP retained power in Chhattisgarh.
