Lucknow, Nov 8 (IANS) With less than a week to go for the by-election to the Sursa assembly seat in Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh Nov 15, the top two political rivals in the state, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) are making all efforts to woo the voters.
The by-election was necessitated as the seat fell vacant after SP's Naresh Agarwal joined the BSP and resigned as legislator.
While acting president of SP, Shivpal Singh Yadav, visited Hardoi Saturday, party head Mulayam Singh Yadav will attend a public interaction Tuesday. Chief Minister Mayawati is to shortly tour Hardoi but the date is yet to be finalised.
'Party general secretary Amar Singh will also tour Hardoi Nov 13,' SP spokesperson Rajendra Tripathi told IANS.
While BSP has filed Agarwal's son, Sonu Agarwal, from the seat, the SP candidate is Shubh Sagar Mishra.
Besides Mishra, Sonu will also face competition from a Congress candidate, Mithilesh Chauhan, on a seat which has been the Agrawal family's pocket-borough for the past two generations. Before Agarwal, his father, Ram Kumar Jaiswal, used to win from this constituency.
The BJP has not fielded anyone because of the party's cordial relations with the Agarwal family, sources claimed.
Four independent candidates are also in the running for this seat
