London, Nov 8 (ANI): England captain Kevin Pietersen has said that his main strike bowler Steve Harmison can recapture his spot as the world's No1 bowler. Harmison last topped the ICC rankings four years ago but has slipped down to 27th place, The Telegraph reported.
"I want Steve Harmison to be the best bowler in the world in the next 12 months," Pietersen said on Friday, following England's first practice session in Bombay.
"We had a job to do getting him back into the team and we're just grateful he's back and playing the way he is. He's had a fantastic season," he said.
"Every captain would like a 90mph bowler or two in his armoury but at international level you need accuracy as well to be effective," Pietersen added.
Harmison has the pace but needs rhythm and confidence to bolster the latter and this is Pietersen's way of boosting that ahead of the seven-match one-day series, which begins in Rajkot on November 14, The Telegraph reported.
"India are playing great cricket at the moment and that means it will be a tough series, but at the end of the day we've been playing good cricket as well. Having beaten South Africa 4-0 in the one-day series at the end of the season, we're learning how to win and I think the boys are hungry to do well out here," said Pietersen. (ANI)
