National, Fri, 07 Nov 2008 IANS

Lucknow, Nov 7 (IANS) A junk dealer has been arrested after being found with counterfeit currency notes of Rs.96,000 in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshaher district, the police said Friday.

'Acting on a tip-off we arrested Jameel Thursday from Jahangeerabad locality in Bulandshahr, some 400 km from Lucknow,' police inspector Anil Kumar told IANS on phone.

Preliminary investigations reveal Jameel could be a part of a major racket involved in circulation of fake currency notes, he added.

Jameel, who is under interrogation, has revealed that he was to meet a man called Hussain in Sakhni village in Bulandshahr for handing over the counterfeit currency notes to him.

'We are still to trace Hussain, who can provide vital clues in the case,' said Kumar.
