The DLF Indian Premier League matches have so far offered a good package of entertainment with increasing uncertainty on the standings of teams eying for semi-final slot. In addition, controversies have too added steam to league cricket whether Bhajj-Sreesanth spat or the recent Warne-Sourav row.
IPL has so far been a great diversion from other form of entertainment considering its growing popularity among television viewers. Bearing in mind last couple of matches it is for sure that it could be anybody’s game to reach semi-finals.
However among all eight teams fighting for title, Chennai Super Kings is so far on the driving seat winning 4/4 following Delhi Daredevils (3/4), Kings XI Punjab (3/5) and Rajasthan Royals (4/5). The number may vary with the upcoming matches considering the first pace format of the game.
Rajasthan Royals which started off slow losing their first match has come back with a great spirit with two big wins over Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. On the other side, the one time all favourite Sourav-Shahrukh’s Kolkata team has lost its momentum loosing three matches in a streak.
However, one team that has been invincible thus far is MS Dhoni’s leading Chennai Super Kings. With likes of Mathew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Jacob Oram, Makhaya Ntini, Muttiah Muralidharan, Parthiv Patel, Suresh Raina and Stephen Fleming this team has emerged well with its star value.
The Kolkata Knight Riders got a major jolt on Thursday when Royal Rajasthan overcome them defending a modest target of 197 and bundled out Kolkata for 151 in 19.1 overs. Knight Riders’ anxiety for success has just censured.
Kolkata will face Kings XI Punjab on Saturday and Rajasthan in a big match will host Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Both are crucial on the point of view of points table. It would also be interesting to see the proceeding as teams like Chennai in its upcoming matches would not feature Hayden and Hussey as they have left for Australia to fulfill their national team obligation.
Also three other on-paper strong teams: Mumbai Indians, Deccan Charges Hyderabad and Royal Challengers are yet to come up with some good performance without losing their upcoming matches to keep their hopes alive for the semi final fit.
