With the way the standard of Indian golfers attained towering heights in recent past, they put up a dismal show at the just concluded Volvo China Open in Beijing. PGTI member Gaurav Ghei's tied 28th finish was the best among the Indians at the Volvo China Open.
Ghei finished the tournament with a total of seven over 295 after he shot 75 in the fourth and final round. The Delhi golfer was 17 strokes behind the eventual winner, Ireland's Damien McGrane (ten under 278).
Ireland’s McGrane (278) claimed his maiden title after closing with a one-over 73 amidst torrential rain at the Beijing CBD International Golf Course on Sunday.
The Irishman romped home, nine strokes ahead of his nearest rivals Englishmen Simon Griffiths, Oliver Wilson and Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera (all one under 287).
Ghei (76, 69, 75, 75) climbed from overnight tied 44th to tied 28th after returning his second consecutive 75 on Sunday. Ghei sank birdies on the third and 10th and dropped bogeys on the second, fifth, 14th, 17th and 18th.
Among the other Indians in the field, Gaganjeet Bhullar (69, 75, 73, 81) finished tied 44th at ten over 298 after having a promising start in the event while Indian Masters winner SSP Chowrasia (74, 73, 76, 81) ended up in tied 63rd place with a total of sixteen over 304.
