Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) have taken three suspects into custody from Indore into the powerloom town of Malegaon (Maharashtra) and Modasa (Gujarat) bomb blasts occurred on September 29 this year. Police have taken them to Mumbai for further questioning.
Reports, though not officially confirmed, say that the accused are allegedly related to Hindu Jagaran Manch, which is said to be linked with Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student-wing of the Bhartiya Janata Party.
Those three arrested by the Maharashtra Police are Shyam Sahu, Dilip Nahar, and Shivnarayan Singh.
Earlier Dharmendra Bairagi from Dewas was also detained by the police and taken to Mumbai for questioning. A sadhika, Pragya Singh reportedly a former member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, was also taken into custody by the police.
However, the VHP has critically objected on involvement of the organisation into the matter, and said it has no links with the accused.
The evidences so far collected pointing to the involvement of Indore based Hindu extremist group in the Malegaon blasts in which five people were killed. The ATS on Thursday had claimed that blasts were reportedly carried out by Hindu Jagaran Manch.
It is learnt that ATS team had secretly reached Indore on October 19 and with the help of local police detained all the four people.
The ATS breakthrough was the motorcycle used in the blast, and that had been traced back to Pragya. As per the police, the registration number was removed with chemicals but police succeeded to recover it with the help of forensic.
An ATS official, when asked about the involvement of a Hindu organisation in the Malegaon blasts, said the ATS is investigating the matter currently and will share the details of the probe at the appropriate time.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M Politburo member Brinda Karat raising the issue in the House yesterday demanded ban on the Hindu organisation. She said ATS reports prove that Bajrang Dal and similar groups are now found to be involved in the bomb blasts. Why is no action being taken against them? If you put ban on SIMI, why not on Bajrang Dal?
The BJP strongly denied the involvement of Hindu groups in bomb making. Home Minister R.R. Patil and Director-General of Police A.N. Roy refused to comment on the issue.
This is not the first incident when involvement of any Hindu extremist group has been named. The investigation into the blasts – first on Feb 20 this year in a Mumbai cinema hall in protest of a Marathi play and the second blast in Vashi on May 31 – found that Janatan Prabhat, a Hindu organisation was involved in the blasts. On August 24, two former workers of Bajrang Dal was killed in the blast in a house during bomb making.
