Mobile users will soon enjoy the emoticons (emotions in icons) service in India like they usually enjoy it in the computer through chatting. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed a deal with RealNetworks, the global emoticonSMS service provider that have approximately 800.3-million subscriber across the globe to provide the service on the mobile.
The service is likely to begin by the end of the year, BSNL official announces.
After beginning the service, BSNL subscribers will be able to access this service after signing it up. The emoticons subscribers will then send or receive the emoticons SMS that will automatically converted from text to emoticons by the use of key word recognition technology.
“Subscribers will be able to choose from up to 4,000 emoticons across 5000 themes,” claims Jay Kim, the Vice-President (APAC and Music Business) of RealNetworks.
“It (EmoticonSMS) is another value-added service offered by Real that makes traditional SMS more engaging and fun.” said Kim.
“BSNL is one of the largest telecom service providers in India that expects to be a market leader in terms of value-added services through this technology.”
BSNL hopes that the number of subscriber would reach till 39-millions by the end of this year.
Appraising to its new partner, BSNL official said, "Through its global client roster, Real has clearly demonstrated its ability to serve our customer base with new and cutting edge features," said a senior BSNL official.
"Delivering a premium experience to our subscribers has always been our primary goal, and working with Real to deliver emoticonSMS helps us continue providing the latest in personalisation services while realising benefits to our bottom line," official added.
Besides providing emoticons service, RealNetworks offers Music on Demand, Games, Video, Personalisation features (such as Ringtones, RBTs and Multimedia Ringback Services) as well as messaging services.
