IPL offers a total of Rs. 12 crores prize money with winner to get Rs. 4.8 crores while runners-up to receive Rs 2.4 crores.
It’s been raining money for the cricketers at the moment with the inaugural edition of the DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) has offered a whopping overall prize money of Rs 12 crores including a winners' purse of Rs 4.8 crores making it one of the richest domestic cricket event in the world.
The highly lucrative fascinating event that has franchises owned by Bollywood stars and corporate giants commences on April 18 with Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Vijay Mallya's Bangalore Royal Challengers at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The much-famed event, which has 59 matches in all and will be spread over 44 days, will keep on its label of being a cash-rich cricket tourney thus far in the history of World cricket as the runner-up of the tournament will be richer by Rs 2.4 crores and moreover even the team finishing last will get Rs 40 lakhs in its kitty.
"The whooping amount of Rs. 4.8 crores for winners' prize money truly makes the DLF IPL one of the richest events for a domestic Twenty20 league anywhere in the world," IPL Chairman Lalit Modi said.
The prize money distribution is really one of its kind that even the losing semi-finalists will fetch Rs 1.2 crores each for their efforts. Rest of the prize money will then be divided among the other teams with the team finishing fifth, sixth and seventh will collect Rs 80 lakh, Rs 70 lakh and Rs 50 lakh respectively.
