The Chennai franchise of the much-awaited DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) formally launched its 24-member team, led by Indian ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in a glittering function here on Saturday.
No one from the list of foreign players could make it to the launching ceremony due to their prior commitments. Super Kings’ skipper Dhoni said he is proud to lead a young team and our ultimate aim is to win the inaugural championship.
Aircel Cellular and Reebok will be the title and apparel sponsors of the team while former South African captain Kepler Wessels will be the coach of the team and former Indian Physio Gregory King will be the physical trainer. Tommy Simsek will be the team physio.
Former India opening batsman K. Srikkanth alongwith actors Vijay and Nayanthara, the brand ambassadors of the Chennai Super Kings team were also present on the occasion.
The IPL, comprising of eight franchises, is scheduled to kick-off on April 18 and will be played over 44 days involving 59 matches, including two semi-finals and the final at Mumbai.
Chennai Super Kings consists some of the big names of foreign players namely Mathew Hayden and Michael Hussey (Australia), Stephen Fleming and Jacob Oram (New Zealand), Makhaya Ntini and Ablie Morkel (South Africa) and Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka).
